ExpressionEngine has a new owner

We are extremely excited to announce that Packet Tide (EEHarbor) now owns ExpressionEngine. Packet Tide is the most successful and prolific ExpressionEngine add-on developer in the world, with a catalog of over 50 add-ons. They are also a very successful software development agency, employing a world-class team of developers with diverse skills and solid capability.
A year ago, EllisLab was acquired by Digital Locations in order to facilitate the transition of ExpressionEngine from a commercial software application to an open source one. That transition was successful, but it became apparent in recent months that ExpressionEngine didn’t fit perfectly within the goals of Digital Locations, as it seeks to build a business in Artificial Intelligence.
We decided that what was best for ExpressionEngine was to seek a new owner, one that could devote all the resources necessary for ExpressionEngine to flourish. Our top candidate was Packet Tide due to their development capability, extensive catalog of add-ons, and deep roots in the ExpressionEngine community. We are thrilled that they immediately expressed enthusiastic interest in becoming the caretakers of ExpressionEngine.
The first major initiative of Packet Tide will be to finish development on ExpressionEngine 6.0, an exciting new version we’ve been quietly working on behind the scenes. That version will have a reimagined control panel (screenshot above) with a dark theme, along with foundational changes that will pave the way for fantastic new capability, including add-on and service integrations within the app itself.
I want to personally express deep gratitude to the ExpressionEngine community for their loyalty and support over the past 15 years. While this ownership change represents a new chapter for me personally, I’m very excited for the future of ExpressionEngine under the care of Packet Tide. I truly believe that the best is yet to come!
